The Institute of Radiation Safety BELRAD was established in 1990. It is an independent non-governmental organization. The Institute was created by Professor VASILY BORISOVICH NESTERENKO, the corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus and Doctor of technical sciences.

The establishment of the Institute was supported by Mr. ANDREY DMITRIEVICH SAKHAROV, the academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Mr. ANATOLY YEVGENYEVICH KARPOV, the world chess champion, the President of the International association of Peace Funds and Mr. ALES ADAMOVICH, the Byelorussian writer and literary critic.
